How Much to Pay for Night Vision Binoculars

Different strokes

There are a variety of night vision binocular technologies and they come in a wide range of prices. There are several factors that might influence how much you would want to pay for them. If you are in the fortunate position of not being effected by the current recession, you can probably afford to just buy the best. For the rest of us it will largely depend on what we want to do with them.

Assuming that you are not a member of a special forces unit who needs to buy his own equipment, you won’t be looking at the cutting edge of night vision technology. The factors to take into account are, what you will be using them for and how much you will be using them.

If just want to be able to check out who might be in your yard or neighbourhood, something relatively cheap will do. You won’t need great range or very high definition. Being able to spot movement and identify that it is a person who is where they shouldn’t will be sufficient for your purpose. You probably won’t need them very often, unless nightime neighbourhood watching is your thing.

Hunting

If you are a hunter, different factors come into play. You will need something that allows you to see your prey at a range where they haven’t already heard you. You will also need technology that achieves this without emitting visible light. You will want to see but not be seen. You will also be likely to be using them for longer periods at a stretch. In that case, it would be more comfortable to have something that is able to produce a more natural, sharper image.

The want it factor

You can carry out a logical analysis of what you actually need, based on purpose, length of use, return on investment etc. But if you are anything like me, what you want can very easily become what you need. The practical factors seem to get swept aside by the desire for the latest shiny new gadget. And why not? There may be a recession but you still have to live a little.

There are different generations of NVD on the market starting with 1st gen which are generally the cheapest on the market to 3rd generation optics which can be priced well into the thousands dollar wise.
